The Rt Rev Francis Amenu, the Moderator of the General Assembly of the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, on Friday said the nation must remain focused as it went into the production of oil and gas in 2011. Rt. Rev. Amenu therefore appealed to leaders of the nation to keep to their mandate and ensure that every community benefited from the nation’s natural resources. He said the country must count itself blessed with natural resources and prayed that those resources would unite the nation and “enhance the spirit of oneness.” Rt. Rev. Amenu called for brotherly cooperation and urged the youth to empower themselves and become responsible citizens instead of staying idle. He described the political situation in Cote d’ Ivoire as very sad and expressed the hope that the situation would be resolved early for peace to prevail. The Rt Rev Francis Anani Lodonu, the Catholic Bishop of the Ho Diocese, said 2010 had seen so much progress in the country’s democratic credentials, moving away from politics of insult to dialogue and expressed the hope that 2011 would be characterized with “common understanding, unity and grace.” He expressed joy that the populace was now appreciating the humility and leadership style of President John Atta Mills and said he was hopeful that 2011 will be “action year” as the President stated and called on all to be patient. “We all have the responsibility of ensuring peace and this we must do by exercising patience while government addresses issues concerning the educational and health sectors. I personally wish that all challenges at the health sector are resolved before the implementation of the one-time health insurance premium,” Rt. Rev. Lodonu said. He also called for prayers for Cote d’Ivoire.
